Harvest Family Life Ministry New Horizons

April is Child Abuse Awareness month and we are asking all congregations and people of faith to participate in Blue Sunday. Blue Sunday is the National Day of Prayer for Child Abuse and Neglect and is usually the last Sunday in April, this year April 27, 2008.

Blue Sunday was created to unify the Faith Based Communities, despite their differences, to raise awareness and get involved in various ways for children who have endured abuse and/or neglect. Harvest Family Life and New Horizons would like to partner with other faith communities to spread the word about various ways they can help.

The issue of child abuse is a serious concern especially in the state of Texas. In the fiscal year 2007 CPS,

• Received over 240,688 reports of child abuse or neglect

• More than 71,344 children were known to be confirmed victims of abuse and neglect.

• More than 34,000 children were in foster care

Our goal is to have 500 Texas congregations participate on Blue Sunday in the following ways:

• Pray for abused and neglected children and their care givers

• Set-up an information table after Services

• Invite a faith-based staff to meet with your congregation
