Emergency Shelter &
Assessment Center
The New Horizons Emergency Shelter &
Assessment Center, located in Brownwood, Texas provides emergency
placement for children and youth who must leave their families or
other placements due to behavior of the child, problems within the
family or circumstances of a particular situation that warrants immediate
assessment of emotional or traumatic conditions. New Horizons
ESAC is licensed by the Texas Department of Protective and Regulatory
Services (TDPRS).

Description of population
served on ESAC campus:
- Relationship problems
- Depression
- Threatening/aggressive behavior
- School difficulties
- Adjustment problems
- Attention deficit and hyperactivity
- Sexual acting out
- Sexual/physical abuse
- Attachment difficulties
- Traumatic experiences
Students range in age from 5-17, with
length of stays not to exceed 120 days.

Description of Program: A thorough assessment
of the child’s therapeutic needs, treatment goals, and eventual placement
options is initiated. Educational, social, psychological, and psychiatric
evaluations are accomplished in order to ensure that treatment recommendations
accurately address and identify the least restrictive living environment
. The child’s level of care classification, a key factor in identifying
the least restrictive living environment, will be determined during
this assessment process.
Description of Campus: Located on a 5-acre
setting, students are in a homelike environment and have the option
of attending school on-campus or in a public school setting.
