Because meaningful relationships provide the motivation...

Every activity, function, and program at New Horizons have one thing in common: all are based on the belief that children and adults function best when involved in healthy relationships. And while our projects and activities provide children with numerous benefits, these activities alone are not sufficient. Relationship with a caring person is required. Therefore, New Horizons values activities and projects according to the potential for developing meaningful relationships.

Healing Relationships are those that:

Provide room for both intimacy and individuality,

Encourage closeness without creating a sense of threat,

Allow both parties to back up, either emotionally or physically, without risk of rejection, and

Are soft on the person while hard on the issue.

Through Relationships...

Children learn to trust (again) and benefit from a corrective experience with surrogate parents.

Recreational and routine activities strengthen interpersonal skills.
