The T. Boone Pickens Foundation focuses grants to
organizations that operate in its core giving categories.
A $1.83 million gift from the Pickens Foundation,
presented in December 2007, is enabling New Horizons to completely
renovate their Residential Treatment Center, commonly known as the
“Ranch”, in Goldthwaite. The 150-acre, newly refurbished
center including three homes, a chapel, school facility, kitchen
and dining rooms, among other amenities, will provide individualized,
intensive residential treatment programs for boys and girls ranging
in ages 7-17, suffering from emotional, behavioral, and adjustment
problems.
In addition New Horizons received a large gift around
Christmas this year. With the help of some wonderful people, the
children of New Horizons received a new and improved playground.
The previous playground equipment was over 25 years old and in need
of a variety of updates. Board Member Tom Salanty and some very
special community members decided that they would raise the money
to give the children a new place to play. They began to raise money
and applied for a grant from Fight Obesity through Play. Thankfully,
both were a great success! They were able to raise enough money
to buy the children an entirely new play
system.
